The Parkinson’s disease (PD) community is constantly building upon and refining the therapeutic needs for individuals with PD. The Parkinson Alliance is committed to helping improve the quality of life of people with Parkinson’s (PWP) and their caregivers.  As part of our mission, we conduct survey-based research to deepen the understanding about the experience of individuals enduring the symptoms of PD.  Our research endeavors are accomplished with the help of many individuals, including our research team, an advisory committee, and of course, the participation and commitment from our participants. In the sections that follow, we provide a brief introduction to our research team and advisory committee.

Our Research Team:
The core research team is comprised of members of The Parkinson Alliance staff, volunteers, and research consultants. Our research team is involved in the conception, organization, execution (data collection and analyses), and writing of the report for each research project.

Aurore Duboille:  Survey Database Coordinator for The Parkinson Alliance, Kingston, NJ.

Miriam Nuno, Ph.D.:   Biostatistician consultant for The Parkinson Alliance, Kingston, NJ; Biostatistician within the Department of Neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA.

Trina Stokes:  Executive Assistant to CEO and Survey Coordinator for The Parkinson Alliance, Kingston, NJ.

Mariam Symber, M.S., CCC-SLP:  Speech and Swallowing Therapist, Long Branch, NJ

Margaret Tuchman:  President of The Parkinson Alliance, Kingston, NJ; Margaret has had PD for 37 years and has had bilateral DBS-STN since 2000.

Carol Walton: CEO of The Parkinson Alliance, Kingston, NJ.

Jeffrey Wertheimer, Ph.D.: Chief Research Consultant for The Parkinson Alliance, and Head of Neuropsychology and Clinical Training Director at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA.

 

Our Advisory Committee:
An expert on the topic that is being investigated contributes to each research endeavor. Our Advisory Committee is comprised of Neurologists, Psychiatrists, a Speech Therapist, Swallowing Therapist, and a Physical Therapist.  These individuals review the questions designed by The Parkinson Alliance and the selected validated research instrument(s) pertaining to each topic. They also assist in the preparation of final report.

Jeff Bronstein, M.D., Ph.D.: Professor of Neurology and Director of Movement Disorders Program at the University of California Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA.

Fay Horak, Ph.D.:  Physical therapist and motor control neurophysiologist specializing in Movement Disorders at Oregon Health & Science University.

Laura Marsh, M.D.: Psychiatrist at Baylor College of Medicine and Michale E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.

Michael Okun, M.D.:  Neurologist and Administrative Director and Co-director of the Center for Movement Disorders and Neurorestoration which is part of the Center for Translational Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases, the McKnight Brain Institute, and the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, FL.

Lori Ramig, Ph.D., SLP:  Speech Therapist, Co-Founder of LSVT Global, and Professor in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Science at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Daniel Weintraub, M.D.:  Psychiatrist in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Veterans Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA.
