NINDS Sponsors Parkinson’s Meeting to Identify Challenges and Define Research Priorities

(December 5, 2013) - To inform ongoing and future efforts in Parkinson’s disease (PD) research, NINDS will hold the “Parkinson’s Disease 2014: Advancing Research, Improving Lives” conference, on January 6 and 7, 2014 at the Natcher Conference Center on the NIH main campus in Bethesda, Maryland.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic, progressive movement disorder that affects the lives of more than one-half million patients across the United States. Currently available pharmacological and surgical treatments provide relief from some motor symptoms, but do not halt the ultimate progression of the disease.

Meeting participants (including neuroscientists, researchers, physicians, public and private stakeholders) will assess significant challenges and identify the highest priorities for advancing basic, translational and clinical research on PD.
