Parkinson’s Study Dims Ambitions for Gene Flaw Carried by Brin

(February 9, 2015) - Two experimental drugs for Parkinson’s disease have caused lung toxicity in monkeys, researchers said, delivering a setback to one of the most promising pathways to a new type of treatment for Parkinson’s disease - a drug that interferes with a compound called leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2). Mutations in the gene that produces LRRK2 have been linked with Parkinson's disease. The LRRK2 gene mutation gained attention after Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google Inc., disclosed in 2008 that his genetic code carries the mutation. Read more…
